How to add custom Themes to Swiftkey! [without decompile!]

Recommended Posts

Hi there, please remove it, if it is illegal to do these things to SwiftKey. I mean no harm, I read the forum policy and I haven't seen anything that would raise a flag, but still, if it's not for these forums, I am sorry in advance!

Oh yeah, everyone wants a theme, right? Well I will post a short tutorial on how to enable more themes for your SwiftKey.

What is needed?

1. Android phone with SwiftKey

2. Root [if you struggle, send me a msg with model number and version of your phone, I can do things, lol].

3. Xposed Installer.

I am currently running SGS3 [i9300] on 6.0.1 with both regular and beta version of SwiftKey. It runs on my set up without any problems, I can't guarantee that this method will 100% work for you, because there is a very wide range of phones and Android versions. But if something is unclear or you are stuck, feel free to PM me or drop a post below, I will be monitoring this thread.

All actions that include root and/or Xposed can brick your phone!

I take no responsibility for any damaged/bricked headset.

Let's start!

If you have Xposed and know what it is etc, you can skip this part.

1. I assume your phone is rooted and ready to go, install Xposed Installer via zip [either CWL or TWRP, any recovery software can flash a .zip file.

xposed*.zip from http://dl-xda.xposed.info/framework/: Must be flashed with a custom recovery (e.g. TWRP) to install the framework.
SDK21 is Android 5.0 (Lollipop), SDK22 is Android 5.1 (also Lollipop) and SDK23 is Android 6.0 (Marshmallow). Pick one depending on your system version.

2. Once the zip has been flashed, go ahead and download attached apk [it's attached to the post, at the very end]. You have to enable installing apps from outside Google Play to install it, post away if you need any help.

Owners of Xposed, you can start reading here.

3. Launch the app [Xposed] and type "swift" into the search bar.

4. There should be a module called "SwiftKeyXthemes", go ahead and download it and install. You will be prompted to reboot your device. Please do so.

5. Once the OS has booted, in your app drawer you should find new app called "SwiftKeyXthemes", run it. Here is a screenshot of UI:

Little bit of info here. This app creates a pathway between your themes and an app. No data inside SwiftKey is touched!

OK, very brief tutorial on how to set this up:

a ) Create a new folder somewhere on your device, where you feel comfortable [this will be themes 'repository'].

b ) Search the web, or use link that I have provided to get some new themes.

c ) Dump folder called 'themes' inside folder that you just created

d ) Add "themelist.json" file so that it sits next to 'themes' folder.

First option unchecked = will theme regular SwiftKey

First option checked = will theme BETA version.

Themes location - Point it to the "themelist.json" file that you created or unzipped from other places. Make sure that the "themelist.json" file is in the same folder as "themes" folder.

6. Now once everything is in place reboot your device, or use the option in app to soft reboot.

7. Go to hub, click themes, yours and profit!

Very small screenshot gallery [I do not claim ownership of the themes, they all have an author written along with the name]:

And here I have zipped all that I have found online. Tested and working on this stable and beta [as of 24.06.2017]

Files are clean, tested with newest NOD32 as well as Defender.

If you have any problems or you don't understand a step, feel free to PM me or post below, I will do everything in my power to help everyone. As you might have noticed, English isn't my first language, so it isn't perfect. I hope you will enjoy a fresh breeze of new themes, and if you look closely, there is a theme 'base' there in the zip file if anyone wants to create something original.

PS: If you enjoyed this post I kindly invite you to a small gallery of photographs made by me, and featuring my perfectly broken cat Peper! It is totally unrelated, and only for fun. I am not gaining anything but satisfaction from sharing, cat is healthy, and very energetic!

EDIT: Not a lot of traffic here, huh?

PSS: I am sorry, I forgot to change language to English for screenshots, but I hope you will understand everything :)
